Local Offer
Small World Nursery provides high-quality childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years.
We are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:00pm, for 51 weeks of the year, offering flexible care to support busy families.
Our nursery is conveniently located in West Watford, close to Watford town centre, making us easily accessible for local families and commuters alike.
At Small World Nursery, we pride ourselves on creating a safe, secure, and stimulating environment where every child feels happy, confident, and loved. We believe children thrive when they are supported emotionally and given the freedom to explore, play, and learn at their own pace.
Our setting features four bright and spacious rooms, each with direct access to its own individual garden. These rooms are thoughtfully designed to promote independence and curiosity, with a wide variety of high-quality resources that children can access freely to guide their own learning.
We are also proud to have our own in-house nursery cook, who prepares nutritious and balanced meals daily, including breakfast, snacks, lunch, and tea. Our kitchen holds a 5-star rating from the Food Standards Agency, the highest possible award, reflecting our commitment to children’s health and wellbeing.
For your convenience, we offer a large on-site car park with ample parking bays, including a disabled parking space located right outside the front of the nursery, making drop-offs and pick-ups as easy as possible.
Accessibility arrangements
Small World Nursery is proud to be a fully wheelchair-accessible setting. We have ramp access at the nursery entrance and wide doorways throughout, ensuring easy access for all. Both our indoor and outdoor play areas are on one level, and we have a dedicated disabled toilet to support wheelchair users and those with additional mobility needs.
We offer a wide range of age-appropriate toys and equipment to support all stages of development. Our activities are carefully planned to be inclusive and accessible, ensuring every child can participate fully and feel valued in our nursery community.
How does your service cater for children and families with SEND
Our Nursery Manager brings over 25 years of experience in early years education, including extensive work with children with SEND. She is supported by our Deputy Manager, who has attended specialist SEND training and is confident in completing the necessary documentation to support individual needs. In addition, our Third in Charge has recently completed a Level 3 SENCO qualification, strengthening our team’s knowledge and leadership in inclusive practice.
We ensure that ongoing training and professional development is provided for all staff to help them support children with additional needs effectively.
Small World Nursery has established strong relationships with our local Family Centre and works in close partnership with a wide range of professionals, including advisory teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and health visitors, to ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive.
How will staff support my child's needs
At Small World Nursery, we are proud to have three SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) who regularly attend relevant training and bring valuable experience in supporting children with additional needs.
We operate a key person system, which helps build strong, trusting relationships between practitioners, children, and their families. This system ensures that each child is known, understood, and supported as an individual.
The key person plays a central role in supporting the child and their family on a daily basis. Our SENCOs work closely with the key person and parents/carers, ensuring everyone is fully informed about the child’s developmental progress and any additional support they may require.
With parental consent, the SENCO supports the key person in completing essential documentation, such as IEPs (Individualised Educational Plans) and IAELDs (Individual Assessments of Early Learning and Development). These tools help identify specific areas of need and ensure that appropriate strategies and interventions are in place.
Staff training experience
At Small World Nursery, all staff understand the importance of supporting children with additional needs and are committed to providing an inclusive and nurturing environment for every child.
Our SENCOs have experience working with a wide range of needs and disabilities and regularly attend SENCO training courses provided by Hertfordshire County Council, as well as local cluster meetings to stay up to date with current best practices.
We prioritise ongoing staff training and professional development to ensure high-quality, inclusive teaching across the setting. If a child requires specific support, we take proactive steps to ensure the appropriate training is provided to the team working with them.
In addition, all staff are trained in paediatric first aid, ensuring children's safety and wellbeing are always prioritised.
