where education, care & play go hand in hand

Outdoor Play

Here at Small World Nursery we believe that playing outdoors forms an essential part of each child’s development and therefore is available all year round as part of each room’s daily routine. We ask that parents provide weather appropriate clothing to ensure their child’s comfort in all weather conditions. We believe that if a child is not well enough to participate in outdoor play they should not be attending nursery.
It is recognised that some children learn more effectively outdoors, therefore access to all areas of the EYFS curriculum are reflected in the garden. The children in each room have access to our large garden area, split into three sections to ensure suitability for each age group. The nursery garden is composed of three surface areas and contains a variety of natural resources such as logs, trees, plants and mud for digging. We have a large canopy area allowing children access to the outdoor area in all weather conditions.
Outings
With permission from the parents/carers all children are given the opportunity to go on regular outings. These include walks in the local area, visiting the park or helping to develop and maintain our nursery allotment where they help to look after a wide variety of pants, fruit, vegetables and herbs to learn about growth, harvest and life cycles.
